"racist remarks" and my stand.
I've been really itching to write this one, as far as the unjust racist remarks were finally aired yesterday night at the Pinoy Big Brother House episode. Here it goes...
Slovene housemates Pero & Miha were automatically nominated by Big Brother due to their harsh remarks about Pinoy Big Brother Season 2 Housemate Bruce Quebral.
Miha - “Bruce shouldn’t go into the jacuzzi in order not to make the water brown.”
Pero - “He should give his finger into milk in order to make it chocolate.”
At this post modern times, were each nation is on the forefront of globalization, efficient mass media broadcasting and the struggle to keep up with the challenges brought about by the fast paced generation we are all into, I am saddened by the fact that still - there are people who treats and looks down to Filipinos particularly as second rate citizens of this ONE world. - How pathetic to utter such racist remarks. I am not at all angered - this is a matter of standing up to my opinions and point of view regarding this matter. Also, I am not making a sweeping generalization in any way.
The way our Filipino House mates treated Tina (the Slovene House mate) was truly commendable. In every way possible, even at the walled and camera-full compound they are into, we Filipinos lived up to our reputation of being hospitable and visit-worthy. ( I just don't know whether Bruce had the same kind of reception and fun filled/productive activities in his' five day stay in Slovenia. - Where most of the airtime occupying the Slovene Big Brother House was basically house mates bumming around, quarrelling and sleeping.)
In closing, the Swap was a success. Nonetheless, the occurrence of such racist remarks by some Slovene House mates was truly an upfront attack to our nationality. In this scenario, we've just seen the worst case status quo, that despite a struggle to become equal - still - there are people who looks down to us, and in color. The challenge is on us Filipinos, to prove them wrong and be the best productive citizens of this world.
